Now that the US Open the last Grand Slam GS of the professional season has ended perhaps it is time to remember one of the women with the most titles and in my opinion the least recognition outside the circuit.

Rosemary Casals was born in San Francisco California USA in . Daughter of Salvadoran emigrants Rosie was an atypical case in the women's tennis scene. Her scant one hundred and sixty centimeters did not prevent her from competing with the greats of her time: such as Billie Jean King or Margaret Court who still today maintains the record of GS wins with titles.

Rosie continues to fight after five decades for the role of women in sport to be recognized working especially to make the history of women in tennis known.

Casals could perhaps be considered the Poulidor of women's tennis. She never won a singles title of the four Grand Slam titles Australia Roland Garros Wimbledon and the United States but she won nine times in women's doubles partnering King in CXB Directory seven of them five times on the courts of the All England Tennis Club. and four in the Yankee Open and three in mixed doubles two in England partnering with Nastase and one in New York. In addition she won the Federation Cup six times as part of the United States team . During her active time she gained a reputation as “good little people.”

She helped change the women's sport of tennis on September when nine women tennis players known as the “ Original ” signed contracts to create professional women's tennis. Casals was one of those nine along with figures like Billie Jean King or Peaches Bartkowicz . She was the seed of the constitution three years later of the  Women's Tennis Association  WTA.

Rosie continues to fight after five decades for the role of women in sport to be recognized working especially to make the history of women in tennis known. “At that time the s the media didn't care about women's tennis” she has stated on several occasions “If you covered women's tennis that meant you were demoted from the NFL or basketball . We had to teach them teach them about who we were what we did what was happening in the world of tennis.”

chThe “Original ” in in the same location as forty years before

She is also the co-founder along with Tory Ann Fretz of  Love & Love Tennis a non-profit organization that since promotes and supports tennis youth and provides grants to tennis academies and schools in California 's Coachella Valley. . With this work they aim to “find a way to give back to our sport and our community especially the children.” For the two of them tennis “continues to be the focus that drives us to set and achieve goals.”

New York Times  journalist  Grace Lichtenstein in her book  A Long Way Baby. Behind The Scenes in Women's Pro Tennis  called Casals the “Liza Minelli of tennis.”

And speaking of making women in tennis visible a mention to Bianca Vanessa Andreescu Mississauga Canadian with a Romanian mother and father champion of the US Open and María Camila Osorio Serrano Cúcuta the Colombian winner of that same trophy in the junior version.
